Scholarships and Financial Aid

Scholarships

The College of Engineering and the Department of Chemical Engineering also administer some scholarships. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of financial need, academic performance, geographical location, student activities, and/or area of specialization. As a normal rule, scholarships are limited to U S citizens and many are limited to Florida residents. The majority of the scholarships require the student have an upper division grade point average from the University of Florida.

Scholarship applications are available in the Academic Advisement Office around the second week of December. The completed application is due back in the Academic Advisement Office during the second week of January. It is required that each applicant have an interview with the Undergraduate Coordinator.

Financial Aid

The University of Florida Office for Student Financial Affairs offers a complete program of financial counseling and assistance to students needing funds to meet their educational objectives. Student Financial Affairs assumes the responsibility for coordinating and administering the various aid programs available to students. This assistance may be offered to students singly or in various combinations.

Assistance is granted to each individual's need in relation to estimated cost of attending UF. The parents of a student are expected to make maximum assistance for college expenses of the student. Financial assistance from college sources is viewed as a supplementary to the efforts of the family. The student is also considered to have a responsibility to share a part of the college expenses. This responsibility may be met through summer earnings and the use of a part of savings or assets which belong to the student.
