Registering For Courses

Pre-Registration

During the middle of Fall and Spring Semesters, advanced registration (also known as pre-registration) takes place according to an appointment schedule issued by the Registrar's Office. The student's individual "appointment time" can be found from ISIS. Note that this "appointment time" is the ISIS appointment (the time after which you can electronically register) only - it is NOT an appointment time with Chemical Engineering Undergraduate Coordinator or Undergraduate Advisor.

An announcement to make the advisement appointment is e-mailed to each student's e-mail address. It is the student's responsibility to ensure that their current address information is on file in the Registrar's Office AND in the Chemical Engineering Academic Advisement Office.

Student Academic Support System (SASS) Audit

Each student can check their own SASS audit report through the Integrated Student Information System (ISIS)  (www.isis.ufl.edu). Each student should obtain and review their SASS audit, which is a complete record of courses taken and grades earned. It also specifies the courses needed to complete the degree requirements. Each audit is based on the Registrar's current files. The information contained in this audit is the same as that used to certify eligibility for graduation. Therefore, it is essential for each student to review this information to ensure accuracy. Any errors should be reported to the Academic Advisement Office.

Curriculum Plan

Each student is to maintain an updated Curriculum Plan through graduation.  The on-line Curriculum Plan Form (http://undergraduate.che.ufl.edu/schedule/schedule_2002.html) is to be used to prepare curriculum plans. See the on-line curricula section for pertinent suggestions on the preparation of curriculum plans.

Advisement

The Chemical Engineering Department begins pre-registration advisement appointments prior to the official pre-registration period. The advisement conference is mandatory. An advisement hold is placed on each student by the College of Engineering preventing registration without speaking with an academic advisor.  The Chemical Engineering Academic Advisement Office does not release the advisement hold until after the advisement session with the Undergraduate Coordinator or Advisor has been completed.

Registration

All registrations are now completed via ISIS (Integrated Student Information System). ISIS can be accessed at http://www.isis.ufl.edu on the World Wide Web. This electronic system provides access to the basic services students use most frequently. Students can register for courses, drop/add courses, check grades, and view their cumulative grade point average, schedule, holds, fee information and financial records. For more information about this consult the Schedule of Courses or contact the Office of the University Registrar (http://www.reg.ufl.edu/).

Departmentally Controlled Courses

For those courses shown in the Published Schedule of Courses as "DEP-X" or "DEP-X" for a section number, it is necessary to get the number from the department teaching the course. The departments use this system to control that particular section for a variety of reasons, i.e., classification level of students, electives with limited enrollment, waiting for the other section to fill up, etc.

General

In order for ISIS to allow a student to register for a departmentally controlled section number, the department teaching the course must enter the student's social security number on the ISIS Course Permission screen. The student then uses ISIS to add that section.

ANY PERSON WHO GIVES A DEPARTMENTALLY CONTROLLED SECTION NUMBER TO ANOTHER PERSON WILL BE DROPPED FROM THE COURSE ALONG WITH THE PERSON TO WHOM THE SECTION NUMBER WAS GIVEN.

ECH 4905 Enrollment

When a student wishes to register for ECH 4905 - Special Problems in Chemical Engineering, a form entitled ECH 4905 Course Registration Permission must be completed by the student and signed by the professor with whom the student proposes to work.

  1. Obtain an ECH 4905 registration permission form from the Chemical Engineering Academic Advisement Office.
  2. Complete the form and take it to the professor who will be responsible for assigning you a grade in that course. The professor must sign the permission form.
  3. Take the signed permission form to the Chemical Engineering Academic Advisement Office. The office staff will keep the permission form, enter your social security number on the ISIS Course Permission screen and give you the course section number.
  4. Use ISIS to register for the section.

The student's social security number will not be entered on the ISIS Course Permission screen without the instructor's signature on the form.

Drop/Add Procedure

During the first few days of classes, each student is permitted to adjust his/her schedule without penalty. Students should be very careful when making schedule adjustments. It is possible for a section that you want to fill while you are dropping another course section.

After the drop/add (schedule adjustment) period, if a student wishes to drop a course for which he/she is registered in the current term and/or add another course, a Drop/Add form must be used.  When adding a course, it is required that the department teaching the course initial the add first.

When dropping a course, it is the responsibility of the student to make sure that the course has been removed from the schedule before the deadline has passed.

After the Chemical Engineering Undergraduate Coordinator signs the form for the College of Engineering Assistant Dean of Academic Programs, the student delivers the Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office in Criser Hall.

Students should be aware of the difference between a "schedule change" during the first week of the semester and the allowable "course drop" during the succeeding 8 weeks of the semester. Any course dropped from the schedule after Late Registration has ended, will result in a "W" (withdrawal) on the student transcript.

Scheduling of Courses

It is the a policy of the Department of Chemical Engineering to offer all courses in a manner to meet the scheduling needs of the majority of students (including co-op students). Basically, each required course in the undergraduate chemical engineering curriculum is offered at least once per year. Additional sections may be offered during the term in which most students will register for a particular course (term suggested in the University of Florida Undergraduate Catalog).

Undergraduate Bulletin Board

Each student should periodically check the undergraduate bulletin board for changes in course offerings or room schedules, for special examination dates, and for other matters of interest to undergraduates. This bulletin board is located across the hall from the Chemical Engineering Academic Advisement Office.
