Probation and ExclusionThe Department of Chemical Engineering adheres to the rules and regulations of the College of Engineering and the University of Florida with the addition of the following: Probation and ExclusionA chemical engineering student whose grade point average falls below a 2.0, either junior-senior level or cumulative or who fails to make satisfactory progress will be placed on academic probation and is required to submit a planned program. Any student who fails to meet the planned program or who is a chemical engineering major pursuing a degree in another department may be excluded from the Department of Chemical Engineering. Probation Contract PreparationA student who is placed on probation and fails to see the undergraduate coordinator by the end of the second week of class for preparation of the probation contract will be barred from further registration in the Department and that term's registration will be canceled. Probation CounselingA chemical engineering student on Term 1 probation must see the probation counselor on a monthly basis to review progress towards meeting the conditions of probation. Students on a Term 2 (or Term 3) probation must see the probation counselor on a bi-weekly basis to review progress towards meeting the conditions of probation. These meetings are mandatory and are considered a condition of probation. Drops and WithdrawlStudents on Term 1 academic probation are permitted to drop a course or withdraw from the university. If a student on a Term 2 probation drops a course or withdraws from the university, he/she instantly violates academic probation and must petition for a Term 3 probation to continue in the program. If a student on a Term 3 probation does drop a course or withdraws from the university, he/she instantly violates the academic probation and will be suspended. An exception will be made if the withdrawal was for health reasons and satisfactory grades were being earned. For probation purposes, nonpayment of fees is equivalent to a withdrawal. RegistrationStudents on a Term 1 probation will be permitted to advance register for the following term. However, students who are on a Term 2 (or Term 3) probation will not be permitted to register until grades have been posted by the Registrar's Office on the student's transcript. In addition, a student on Term 3 probation must decide at the beginning of the Term 3 probation whether the student wants to remain in the Department or request a courtesy registration in order to transfer to another department. If a student on Term 3 probation chooses the option to remain in the department and does not meet the conditions of probation, the student will not be allowed another term for courtesy registration. A student excluded for poor scholarship may be allowed a courtesy registration for one semester if requested by a department that is interested in admitting this student. This student will not be allowed to register for any chemical engineering courses during this semester or in any subsequent semester, and is ineligible for readmission to the Department. PetitioningStudents wishing to appeal exclusion must petition via of submitting a letter to the Department explaining why satisfactory progress has not been made and what circumstances have changed that indicate future improvement. Probation and Dismissal (College)If at any time after admission to the college a student’s overall university or junior/senior level grade point average (including all course work taken after attaining a classification status of 3) falls below 2.0, the student will be placed on college probation. A student may also be placed on probation if normal academic progress is not maintained. A student who is placed on probation is expected to remove all deficit points within two semesters. Failure to meet the terms of probation for two semesters may render the student ineligible for further registration in the college. Students who accumulate 15 or more deficit points will be dismissed from the university. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
