International StudiesThe faculty believe that knowledge of the global environment is vital to engineers who will be working in the international environment during the next century. An excellent way to obtain such knowledge is to study abroad. International Exchange ProgramsThe University of Florida has established exchange agreements with several foreign universities that allow UF students to count the credits earned abroad as part of their UF degree. Overseas Studies, within the Office of International Studies and Programs, offers UF students the opportunity to study in a wide range of academic and cultural settings. The possibilities for informal arrangements for transferable international studies are virtually unlimited. Study-abroad programs satisfy the general education international studies and diversity requirement and also may fulfill requirements for a major or minor, as well as general education requirements and UF summer residency. Participants in approved programs can receive financial aid as if they were studying on the University of Florida Gainesville campus. Summer courses taken abroad count as their summer study obligation, and with careful planning and prior approval, count as part of their major requirements. Exchange programs provide a great opportunity for students to obtain international experience, while taking courses very similar to those offered at the University of Florida. An example is the program between UF and Yeungnam University. Students considering such a program should consult with their faculty advisors and the Chemical Engineering Academic Advisement Office.
