Acceptable Course Substitutions
Substitutions for courses required in the BSChE curriculum are only permitted
after a student submits a petition and the petition is approved by the
faculty. The following course substitutions have been pre-approved and are
allowed subject to the conditions noted below.
Required Course: EGM 3311 Introduction to Engineering Analysis (3hrs)
Substitute Course: CAP 2302 Elementary Differential Equations (3 hrs)
- This is a blanket substitution - students do not need to submit a written
petition to make this substitution
Required Course: ECH 4644 Process Design (3 hrs)
Substitute Course: ECH 4913 Integrated Product and Process Design 2 (3
hrs)
- This is a blanket substitution - students do not need to submit a written
petition to make this substitution
Required Courses: ECH 4323 Process Control Theory (3 hrs) and ECH
4323L Process Control Laboratory 5 (1 hr)
Substitute Course: Last credit 4 hrs of the Mega Process Engineering
Course ECH 4904
- This is a blanket substitution - students do not need to submit a written
petition to make this substitution
Required Course: ENC 2210 Technical Writing (3 hrs)
Substitute Course: ENC 3250 Professional Communication (3 hrs) or
Substitute Course: ENC 3254 Professional Writing for the Discipline (3
hrs)
- This is a blanket substitution - students do not need to submit a written
petition to make this substitution
Required Course: EEL 3003 Elements of Electrical Engineering (3 hrs)
Substitute Course: EEL 3111 Circuits (3 hrs) or
Substitute Course: CGN 3710 Experimentation and Instrumentation in Civil
Engineering (3 hrs)
- This substitution is available under the 2001-2002 and later catalogs
Required Courses: EGM 2511 Statics (3 hrs)
Substitute Course: ABE 2062 Biology for Engineers (3 hrs)
- This substitution is available under the 2001-2002 Catalog.
- For catalogs 2002-2003 and later, EGM 2511 is not a required course.
Required Course: ABE 2062 Biology for Engineers (3 hrs)
Substitute Courses: Introductory biology series culminating in BSC 2011.
- This substitution is available under the 2001-2002 and later catalogs.
Required Courses: CHM 2210 and CHM 2211 Organic Chemistry (3+3
hrs) and CHM 2211L Organic Chemistry Laboratory (2 hrs)
Substitute Courses: CHM 3217 One Semester Organic Chemistry (4 hrs) and
CHM 3210 Analytical Chemistry (3 hrs) and CHM 3210 Analytical Chemistry
Laboratory (1 hr)
- This substitution is available under the 2001-2002 catalog.
Required Course : CHM 3217 One Semester Organic Chemistry (4 hrs)
Substitute Courses: CHM 2210 and CHM 2211 Organic Chemistry (3+3
hrs)
- This substitution is available under the 2002-2003 and later catalogs.
Required Course : CHM 4412 Physical Chemistry (4 hrs)
Substitute Courses: Advanced Chemistry Option
- This substitution is available under the 2001-2002 catalog.
- For catalog years 2002-2003 and later, the Advanced Chemistry Option
replaces the CHM 4412 requirement.
