Physics CoursesThe Chemical Engineering BSChE curriculum physics requirement is the two semester general physics with calculus sequence PHY2048 and PHY2049 along with their respective laboratories PHY2048L and PHY 2049L.
Laboratory RequirementsEach of the semesters of the main-stream general physics sequences has a laboratory corequisite. PHY 2048L is a corequisite for PHY 2048 and should be taken concurrently with PHY 2048. The only exception is for those with prior credit for PHY 2048L, taken at the University of Florida. This lab is closely related to PHY 2048 class material. PHY 2060 students take concurrently any regular section of PHY 2048L. PHY 2049L is a corequisite for PHY 2049 and should be taken concurrently with PHY 2049. The only exception is for those with prior credit for PHY 2049L, taken at the University of Florida. This lab is closely related to PHY 2049 class material. Specific physics studied in lab is discussed in class, and can appear on homework, quizzes, and exams. PHY 2061 students take concurrently any regular section of PHY 2049L. You don't need to retake any course you have successfully completed. This is one reason the lecture and the lab are offered as separate courses. You should have completed the PHY 2048L before you register for PHY 2049L. Note that the courses taken to satisfy the pre-professional physics requirements must be calculus based. If a student happens to take a physics without calculus course to satisfy the pre-professional physics requirements, the course will not count towards the BSChE degree and the student must take a physics with calculus course. Prerequisite RequirementsIn general, we recommend that a student begin with the highest level of course for which they are qualified. If you qualify to take the single semester PHY 2060 and PHY 2061, do so. Transfer StudentsStudents are strongly advised to take the entire sequence at one institution. The two semesters of general physics are integral parts of one general physics course, and the sequencing of topics within these semesters is subject to considerable variation from school to school; frequently, the parts from different schools don't fit together well. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
