General Education CoursesThe engineer must not only be a technically competent individual, but must also be a person who can understand, adjust and contribute to the social environment. All undergraduate students (except those transferring to UF with an AA from a Florida public community college or an AA from a Florida public state university) are required to complete the General Education requirement to graduate. Mathematics and Natural SciencesThe engineering pre-professional requirements easily meet the General Education Mathematical Sciences and Natural Sciences requirements as well as Gordon Rule Mathematics requirements. CommunicationsThe Communications General Education requirement can be met by completing ENC 2211 Communication for Engineers. Humanities and Social & Behavioral SciencesThe College of Engineering is accredited by ABET. It is required by ABET that we have depth and breadth in our general education courses. The College of Engineering has interpreted this to mean that students must take courses from the following general education categories: HumanitiesCourses relating humanities to engineering and the sciences, as listed in the humanities section of the general education requirements, are especially recommended. The following is a list of courses which will satisfy the General Education requirement Social and Behavioral SciencesCourses relating social and behavioral sciences to engineering and the sciences, as listed in the humanities section of the general education requirements, are especially recommended. The following is a list of courses which will satisfy the General Education requirement International Studies and DiversityThe College of Engineering is permitted to "double count" credits from the Literature and Arts, Historical and Philosophical, and Social and Behavioral Sciences categories which also satisfy the International Studies and Diversity requirements. Students are encouraged to take those courses in order to minimize the hours required for the degree. Gordon Rule WritingThe following is a list of courses which provide the Gordon Rule Writing word count credits. Some courses which provide Gordon Rule Writing credits can be double counted to also meet the General Education Humanities and Social & Behavioral Sciences requirements. Students are encouraged to take those courses in order to minimize the hours required for the degree.
