Biochemistry Courses

The Chemical Engineering BSChE curriculum allows for a biochemistry course to be taken as a part of the advanced chemistry requirement.  Several biochemistry courses are available to satisfy the advanced chemistry requirement.

Course Comments

CHM 4207

Introduction to Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.  The traditional biochemistry course offered by the Department of Chemistry.

CHM 3218

Bioorganic Chemistry.  A biochemistry course that requires CHM 3217 as a prerequisite.  Together CHM 3217 and 3218 cover the traditional organic chemistry and biochemistry traditionally taken as separate courses.

BCH 4024

Introduction to Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. An alternate to the biochemistry taught in the chemistry department.  It is a myth that because the course is taught by the microbiology department in the College of Medicine it will somehow be considered more favorable when applying for medical school.  The only reference that the reviewers will see on your transcript is that you took a biochemistry course at the University of Florida.

ABE 4660

Applied Microbiological  Biotechnology. Students who want to learn about the biochemistry of microorganisms in industrial process may find this course to be a good selection.

Laboratory Requirements

The chemical engineering BSChE degree curriculum does not require a biochemistry laboratory. However, CHM 4302L Laboratory in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology  is recommended for those students seeking to go into bio-life science fields and is often a requirement for entering medical related professional fields.
