Universal TrackingThe University of Florida has implemented Universal Tracking which is designed to ensure that each student graduates from the university in as effective and efficient a manner as possible. The tracking audit (also known as SASS Report) includes information on what the student has already accomplished academically and what the student needs to accomplish to graduate. If the tracking audit indicates difficulty staying on-track or meeting the requirements for the major, the college will require an appointment with an academic adviser. The university's goal is to help students get back on-track for their major or to help them to change their major. The universal tracking system is available on-line at ISIS ( www.isis.ufl.edu). This feature allows students (1) to check their latest tracking audit (SASS Report) on progress toward the degree and (2) to match their academic records to the degree requirements of other majors so that they can consider other degree options and determine what courses they would have to take if they changed majors. Pre-Professional TrackingTo remain in the Department during the first 60 credit hours, a student must have at least a 2.0 overall grade-point average (GPA), as well as satisfy certain benchmark standards for the eight required pre-professional calculus, differential equations, chemistry, and physics lecture courses. These standards require the completion of a specified minimum number of these courses with a minimum 2.5 GPA in them, as follows:
A student who does not complete the pre-professional courses as described should expect to attend one or more summer semesters to get back on schedule. A student who fails to meet the GPA benchmark standards will probably be denied further registration as a Chemical Engineering student. Then, he or she must be admitted to another department to continue as a student at the University of Florida. That department probably will not be in engineering since these benchmark standards apply to all departments of the College of Engineering. Professional Program AdmissionThe Chemical Engineering Department requires that a GPA of 2.5 or better be achieved in each of the technical areas (calculus, chemistry and physics) for admission to the professional program. A student who comes close to satisfying the performance standards at 60 hours may petition to be allowed to continue for one semester on a probationary basis. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
